It was a long, long wait for Playstation 4 owners to finally get in on the wasteland modding action, and when it arrived, Fallout 4 fans weren't exactly pleased by the extra limitations above and beyond what's found on the Xbox One edition.
Even now, months after mods have been available, the number of PS4 entries continues to lag far behind what's on tap over on the other side of the console fence. Sadly, due to the restrictive nature of what's allowed on console mods, it's unlikely we're going to get an epic total conversion like you'd see on the PC.

The lack of space and inability to add in huge new assets just won't allow for such major changes to the base game. Don't let that kill your enthusiasm for PS4 modding entirely though, as there's still several overhaul mods that significantly change up the Fallout 4 experience on the Playstation platform.
Over the next several slides we cover some of the best of the best in PS4 overhaul mods that you should be trying out immediately.
Unified Clothing Overhaul
For a change in the game's aesthetics and how you can make your character look while stomping across the Commonwealth, this is the mod that should unquestionably be downloaded straight away.
The UCO mod completely opens up the clothing opportunities, allowing you to craft essentially any outfit you can imagine while still have the benefits of armor. If it's something that appears in the game anywhere on any NPC, you can now equip it as your outfit.
Don't like how your current armor looks but prefer its stats? No problem, with UCO you can make exterior clothing invisible, so the defensive qualities remain while the cosmetics are shifted to whatever style you prefer underneath.
Overgrowth Forest Overhaul
Like a much more invasive and complete version of the Simple Green mod (see the next slide), this Overgrowth offering turns most areas of the Commonwealth into a much more verdant forest.
It makes the entire Fallout 4 experience less dreary and empty-seeming, with vegetation overtaking the Boston area long after the radiation has subsided 200+ years after the bombs first dropped. The color scheme is probably the most frequently sited visual problem with the modern Fallout games, and mods like this handily take care of that concern.
Simple Seasons - White, Red, Green, and Yellow
A clever way of getting around some of the restrictions on adding new external assets in PS4 modding, this series of mods tweaks the colors of grass, trees, objects, and vegetation to let you change the Commonwealth to whatever season you desire.
While it may not radically change the game in terms of content or weaponry, it does completely alter the feel of the story with a different season overtaking areas rather than just having everything be that washed out brown/gray color.
Shown above is an example of Simple White, which takes us from eternal nuclear winter to actual, regular old winter. Even more striking is Simple Red, which sets the trees afire with fall leaf colors for a much less monochromatic playthrough.
Wacky Weapons Workshop
The lack of external assets really hampers weapon mods on the PS4, but one forward-thinking player put together something really interesting just by changing how weapons can be crafted.
Now you can put together just about any combination imaginable - including some that really shouldn't exist, like adding a fatman launcher to a revolver. Who doesn't want to launch nukes from their handgun?
The mod also lets you manually add in multiple legendary effects to a wackified weapon, allowing you to craft some truly outrageous guns and melee weapons without having to kill legendary monsters and hope you randomly get something good.
Remember seeing some of the more bizarre robotic companions when Automatron first came out and laughing at how ridiculous some combos could become? Get ready for that, in weapon form.
Scrap That Settlement
Having primarily played Fallout 4 on the PC, it didn't occur to me until seeing this mod that console players are still having to deal with Bethesda's terrible settlement system in its original form. My sincerest apologies, console peons, because that sounds like a real bummer.
If you want more control over how your settlements look, this very nifty mod lets you scrap almost everything -- grass, rocks, bodies, and all sorts of objects that weren't originally scrappable.
New versions of this mod are slated to land soon that will allow you to scrap whole creatures and structures as well.
Zombie Walkers
The feral ghouls in the Fallout universe have always flirted with being zombies, but they never quite go the whole way there. Putting you in an episode of The Walking Dead (or any given classic zombie flick), this overhaul mod takes ghouls and makes them into a shambling horde of the living dead.
Unfortunately, this PS4 version is a bit stripped down from the PC mod of the same name, but it still gets the job done for console players. Feral ghouls are renamed to zombies, sprinting is disabled, and health is modified so that head shots appropriately take them out. A few animations are also tweaked as well for more of a horror feel.
These modified ghoul zombies also come in big herds that you don't want to get caught in! Needless to say, this pretty drastically changes the feel and tone of a Fallout 4 playthrough. Hiding under a dumpster won't keep you safe here.
Outfield Retreat Home
Don't care for the home options in Diamond City or want to have everything at your fingertips in one centralized location?
This RV home not only looks fantastic -- complete with Nuka Cola themed knick knacks all across the outside -- but also has multiple connected crafting locations, storage space for your bobblehead collection, clean water for survival runs, and a bed offering the well rested bonus.
Plenty 'O Exploration
This is an overhaul mod that fans have to put together every time a new Bethesda entry arrives, especially in the Fallout universe. You'd think eventually the developer would get on this without the players having to do it..
The game maps are always huge, with tons of areas to explore, but then you arrive at a specific location and most of the buildings and hallways can't be accessed and are just cosmetic. Whether doors that can't be opened or piles of rubble blocking your way, there's a distinct lack of indoor exploration.
Fallout 4's rendition of this perennially needed fix, Plenty 'O Exploration, is currently in beta for PS4, but still provides a drastically needed service by adding in many new interior segments for a huge increase in the amount of area actually available to explore.
Cheatmaker
Last but not least is Cheatmaker, which overhauls the game by putting everything at your fingertips with no effort required whatsoever! After crawling out of the vault, the Sole Survivor can craft anything at all with no materials required. Want some sweet power armor straight off the start? No problem!

Fallout 4 PS4 mods are keeping the game active on Sony’s console, so we’ve made lots of features highlighting the best user-created content. This particular one focuses on mods that are best utilized in Survival Mode. Want to make the game’s most brutal mode a bit more fun? Keep reading.
1) Simple Camping By ANDREWCX: We highlighted this mod in one of our previous roundups, but felt it was too important to leave off this list. A true Survival fan knows this mode is all about living amongst the elements. In order to make that immersion truly complete, you can craft a few new items at the Chemistry Workbench. These include a campfire, sleeping bag, tent and fragile versions of the tent and sleeping bag that are easier to destroy.
This mod encourages a Survival Mode that’s even more unforgiving than the vanilla version, but ultimately more realistic. The developer has made separate versions for the main game and Far Harbor DLC. We’ve linked to the former. [Link]
2) Esk Survival FastTravel Expanded By Eskarn: Survival Mode in Fallout 4 removes all fast travel options. This PS4 mod doesn’t bring it back completely, but it does add fast travel hotspots to about a dozen key places around the wasteland. That means you can make it to major locales like Sanctuary, Diamond City and the Airport in the blink of an eye. It kills some of the challenge, but it’s still really handy. [Link]
3) Underground Railroad -Immersive Fast Travel for Survival By T9x69: This mod is in the same vein as the previous one, but it brings a bit more nuance to the table. Instead of turning on fast travel in full, this variant introduces 10 manholes across nine regions of Boston that allow for quicker migration. However, aside from pointing out one by Sanctuary, the rest must be found by the player. This keeps things interesting and makes fast travel more of a reward than an instant luxury.

4) Esk Save Anywhere [PS4] By Eskarn: Saving in Survival Mode is typically governed by strategically-placed beds, but this mod removes that mandate altogether. It adds a recipe to the Chemistry Workbench utilities called “spawn bed.” It’s a grenade that costs nothing to make. When tossed, a bed is spawned for the player to sleep in.
This makes Survival easier, but it’s up to you when to use it. [Link]
5) Simple Survival [PS4] By Worlds: Simple Survival works by adding the Survival debuffs of eating, sleeping and drinking to the list of necessary tasks. Pick up the mod by opening the newly placed chest outside Vault 111. Different food and drinks sustain the player for times ranging between 10 and 30 real-world minutes. Crafted food and “ice cold” beverages last longest, and cannibalism can be used as a final resort. Wasteland dwellers must rest every hour to keep up their energy.
In a sense, this mod is true to its name. It adds some of the cool elements of Survival without a totally brutal jump in difficulty. There are versions made for Nuka World and Far Harbor DLC, but we’ve linked to the main game version. [Link]

Unlike previous games, the Fallout 4 ending cutscene does not change based on how the Sole Survivor has finished most quests or interacted with other people. Only the choice of completing Nuclear Family or The Nuclear Option has any effect on the ending. Also, unlike previous games, the ending is voiced by the Sole Survivor instead of Ron Perlman. Unlike the Fallout 4 intro, the voice is based on the chosen gender.

Video scenesEdit
Due to the limited variables affecting the ending cutscene, the cutscene itself is not broken down into segments like in Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas; but exist as 4 separate, complete videos for the two endings and two genders. To maintain the format, 'scenes' will be used instead of 'segments.'
Faction endingsEdit
Although there are two real endings (Nuclear Option and Nuclear Family) as far as cutscenes are concerned, there are four major endings (one for each faction) and their variants (though there are no cutscenes or ending slides for them). The most notable effects of the ending are what faction patrols the Commonwealth and whose flags appear in Diamond City. And while there are no ending slides which tell the player the future, Mama Murphy can give the player the vision of the future once they choose their side (as part of the quest The Sight).
The Minutemen endingEdit
“You're standing with.. the people. Working together. United. I see a land filled with hope again. Fear falls away as the brave step forward to join the ranks. You're a hero. A symbol for a better world. Our world.”— Mama Murphy
This ending can only be achieved if the player character got into hostile relations with the Institute. In this ending, the Minutemen become the dominant force in the Commonwealth and the player character restored the Minutemen to their full power. It is possible to stay on positive terms with the Railroad and Brotherhood of Steel by not making any of those two factions hostile.

In this ending, the Brotherhood of Steel destroys The Railroad and The Institute and the Sole Survivor is promoted to the position of sentinel. Even though their missions have been accomplished, the Brotherhood does not leave the Commonwealth and continue with their other tasks.

In this ending, the Railroad destroys the Brotherhood of Steel and The Institute, after which their organization starts focusing on protecting the synths from groups which persecute them. Furthermore, their military presence seems to grow as their agents patrol the wastelands and they also put up their flags around Diamond City.

“You're wearing a lab coat. You're standing with.. men of science. Visionaries. Brilliant but misunderstood. I see a land marked up, like a great experiment. Each test a new beginning. Each sacrifice an acceptable loss. You will not be loved, but you will save humanity. However you choose to define it.”— Mama Murphy
In this ending, the Railroad and the Brotherhood of Steel are destroyed. With their enemies gone and their improved Nuclear Reactor activated, the Institute cements its dominance over the Commonwealth and becomes even more assertive, with numerous synths patrolling the Commonwealth and the Diamond City being decorated with the flags of the Institute. The Sole Survivor is promoted to the position of the director and declares their standing on the future of the Institute and the Commonwealth (although it does not have in-game consequences other than their speech repeating on Diamond City Radio).

Fallout 4, Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG became the first game on Xbox One to utilize mods on console. Mods are a coup for Xbox One users who want to alter their game, and there are mods for practically everything. There are so many to go through, so it can be hard to know where to start. We've compiled a comprehensive list of the most rewarding, interesting and weird mods available.
Any mods requiring additional content and DLC will say so.
You'll need to a make a Bethesda account to access the mods which you can do from within the game on your Xbox.
Note: Achievements are disabled while mods are active.
THE BIG ONE - Cheat Mode Ultimate Holotape Menu
This mod, while tiny in size, is freaking huge in terms of capability. Most people will probably look for this type of thing first. The Cheat Mod Ultimate Holotape offers all the standard things you might expect, God Mode, Unlimited Carry Weight, Infinite Ammo, Max Perk and S.P.E.C.I.A.L points. But it goes so much further than that: extra inventory slots, easy lockpicking and terminal access, add weapons (DLC if installed and base game), spawn enemies or settlers, add crafting materials.. AND SO MUCH MORE!
This is the best place to start if you want to power your way through the game with little to stand in your way. It will always be in the top slot of your miscellaneous items menu, and the menu is accessed via your Pip-Boy and at any time. Perfect.
The Unofficial Patch
With a game as large as Fallout 4, there are bound to be hundreds of minor bugs. The Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch irons out as many kinks as could be found. It's a hefty mod, and requires being at the very top of your mod list to activate.
Improved Maps and Visible Roads
The Pip-Boy map can be a bit.. gritty. Improved Maps with Visible Roads greatly increases the visibility of everything on the screen by a significant margin. The vibrancy of the lines are much brighter, and roads are now easier to see, making following a path or planning your route much easier.
Full Dialogue Interface
When someone speaks to you in the Commonwealth, you're given options of a couple of words for each dialogue choice. This mod stacks the dialogue options in full, so you can see in advance what your choices are and what the full response will be. This makes the dialogue options more in keeping with how they were in Fallout 3. The mod will also display the 'tone' of the choice, so if you're hoping to give a snappy response, it'll be clearly displayed with a 'tonal inflection' — no more accidental sarcastic responses to people you need to butter up.
Green in the Commonwealth
Green in the Commonwealth adds a boost of much-needed color to the Commonwealth environments. You could argue that after 200 years since the nuclear bombs dropped, at least some of the grass and leaves would probably have grown back in that time.
The Commonwealth is bleak and desolate much of the time, and Green in the Commonwealth adds extra greenery textures; including flowers, lush bushes, and plants. This mod is aesthetic only but certainly does add a level of immensity that some felt was lacking before.
Stronger Workshop Defenses
Stronger Workshop Defenses adds a lot stronger defense items to your workshop menus, and the great thing is, it requires no additional perks. If your survivor bases are suffering, you can throw down some insane turrets which will rip through any raiders that come knocking.
Scrap Everything
It's a little irritating when you're trying to build a settlement for survivors, and there are things that you can't remove to add one more desperately needed power generator. With Scrap Everything you can remove almost everything. If you wanted to strip a settlement to the bare rock and build from the bottom upwards, you can.
Beantown Interiors Project - Requires Far Harbor DLC
This is an interesting mod, in that some abandoned and boarded up buildings around the Commonwealth are now open and available to use. There are currently 12 newly opened buildings in and around the Commonwealth, being situated in Concord, Lexington, Forest Grove Marsh, and Jamaica Plains.
The Beantown Interiors Project concept of opening and using abandoned buildings was also used in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
True Storms - Requires Far Harbor DLC
If you've played Fallout 4, you have probably encountered the weather systems. Radiation storms will ignite the skies with green lightning, causing the player to take radiation damage if they're caught outside. The True Storms mod adds new weather patterns, including radiation rain, dust storms, heavy fog or rain among other things. Interior sound effects for the weather have also been added.
Institue Portal Gun
This gun does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a gun, that you can use to travel to otherwise unreachable areas. Is there something hiding on top of that building? Whip out your Institute Portal Gun, take aim and fire to instantly move to the target. Planning on picking a pocket? Use your gun to create a quick getaway. Being chased by a Randy Savage Deathclaw (see below)? Use the gun for instant evasion! Or maybe you're over-encumbered and you've been looting the abandoned homes of the Commonwealth. Your pockets are full to bursting, and you just can't move. The gun solves this problem too!
Dauntless - Submarine Player Home - Requires Far Harbor DLC
Do you want your own submarine you can use as a base? Of course, you do! Dauntless is not only a player home, but you can drive it around! It's not quite a Winnebago, but a moveable home adds a layer of security to moving around the Commonwealth.
A Cannibal in Concord
Oh my word, this mod is macabre. If you want to inject a creepy and morbid vibe to your game, this mod A Cannibal in Concord adds a horror questline based on real cannibals and serial killers. Lurching off the standard quest path, this mod includes puzzles that will need the player to move things around and search for clues in a creepy basement. Companions are made to wait outside (the mod creator states this is because there isn't room for the player in amongst everything surrounding you) making this mod one of the eeriest and unsettling to play. And it's twisted to boot!
Macho Claws
Deathclaws are the number 1 cause of death in the whole Commonwealth. They're utterly terrifying — the huge jaws, the massive flesh shredding claws.. What if we made them a little less scarier? With this mod, you can change the Deathclaws into WWE Superstar Macho Man Randy Savage. It's dumb as hell, but also hilarious. Download Macho Claws here.
Renovated Furniture
Tired of making semi-decent settlements and being disappointed by the threadbare assortment of furniture to kit them out with? Renovated Furniture inserts over 120 new pieces of furniture into the game that don't look like they have been pulled out of the garbage. Cleaner textures for tables, fridges, chairs, bookcases and more are all part of one tiny file. Radiation fallout is so tough to remove from upholstery..
Commonwealth Cuts
I might not be the only person who thinks the default hairstyles in Fallout (in general) are pretty terrible. They're ugly, boring and a crime against Commonwealth fashion. Commonwealth Cuts inserts lots of new hairstyles in the character creation menu. You'll never look back the greasy-looking default hair textures once you get your hands on Commonwealth Cuts.
Wasteland Creatures Redone
Wasteland Creatures Redone is a retexture mod for most of the lesser enemies and monsters found in Fallout 4. It is pretty large, more than 400mb, but it's great if you're bored of staring down the same old Mirelurks and Bloatflies, etc. A full list of the monsters retextured is in the link.
Submersible Power Armor
This power armor, inspired by the Big Daddies in Bioshock is totally kick-ass. It increases your carry weight, boosts your movement speed, and can even go underwater. Further to this, is has a cool lamp that comes in different colors to light up the depths. While there is one Power Armor set, it has different helmets that represent the different types of Daddies in Bioshock. It's a tank in human clothing. Get it here.
The Wild Wasteland
The Wild Wasteland was a trait from Fallout New Vegas that made exploration a little more unpredictable. Remember the 'Indiana Jones Found Dead in a Refridgerator' moment from New Vegas? That was down to The Wild Wasteland trait which brings random encounters and events, as well as odd items and easter eggs. This trait isn't in Fallout 4, but a mod has been made to emulate it.
CROSS_Cybernetics
Power armor brings such huge defense bonuses, but they require Fusion Cores to remain powered, and they're not always in plentiful supply. CROSS_Cybernetics allows you to create and equip a modular set of 'lite power armor' from its Cyber Crafting Bench, which can be added to settlements. The pieces can be individually upgraded and modded and come in a large range of colors. The best thing? No batteries required.
D.E.C.A.Y Better Ghouls
Ghouls are the highly mutated, radiation damaged humanoids that love to launch themselves at you in groups. They're pink, gross and their mouths gape disgustingly, but once you've fought one, you've fought them all. D.E.C.A.Y Better Ghouls adds variety in the ghoul's skin textures. Some will have moldy skin, exposed bones, missing parts and more. Ghouls are already pretty grim, and this mod adds an extra dollop of grossness.
Everyone's Best Friend
Dogmeat is undeniably the best four-legged companion of any game in recent years. Originally, you were going to be able to have Dogmeat in addition to one of the game's other companions, but this was changed before the final release of the game. Everyone's Best Friend mod allows you to have both Dogmeat and another regular companion follow you on your travels. Triple the attack power available, triple the fun, right?!
Nuka Cola Filler Machine
Bottles, bottles everywhere and not a drop to drink. This is a cool and interesting mod. The Commonwealth is stuffed with empty Nuka Cola bottles, and beyond scavenging them for glass materials, they're pretty useless. What if you could fill them back up with that life giving Nuka nectar? Now you can, with the Nuka Cola Filling Machine! Drop it into one of your settlements, ensure it's powered sufficiently, and fill away. The machine takes a bottle and a bottlecap and fills the bottle up with that sweet life giving liquid.
![]() Dark Husky Dogmeat
Dogmeat again, I can't get enough of this pixellated pooch. This time, you can retexture him into a Dark Husky Dogmeat. The mod doesn't do anything else. It just gives him a fresh look!
Real Nights with Real Lights
If you wanted to be even more terrified at night in the Commonwealth, Real Nights with Real Lights is for you. This mod makes nights darker and increases the range of lights. Most natural light sources are turned way down, so if you're out in the wilderness and far from settlements, it's going to be nigh on pitch black.
